Burn ban still in effect

We’ve been following this story here for you on USVI NEWS.

The burn ban instituted by the VI Fire Department in the wake of the extremely dry season.

That ban is still in effect as we head into Easter weekend.

We talked with the Fire Director Designee Daryl A. George in St. Thomas to find out just what you can do to help avoid any kind of fire.

“No kind of burning outside, no drums burning, no brush burning, even if you wanted to do a pit, no. If it is not in a controlled environment you’re not allowed to do it. Grilling in your backyard is contained. What I’m talking about is you have these open pits and you’re burning charcoal end stuff with no kind of devices for extinguishment, no we’re not allowing that,” George said.

It’s important to note that you can face a fine if you’re burning outside in an uncontained area. That fine is $500.
