FEMA Awards $16M Grant to USVI Water and Power Authority (WAPA)

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement announcing a $16 million grant from U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the U.S. Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) for damages resulting from Hurricane Maria:

“I am pleased to announce that FEMA has awarded a grant, totaling $16,858,305.00 to the U.S. Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority. This funding has been allocated to restore facilities to pre-disaster design, capacity, and function.”

“This funding will help recovery efforts on replacing and re-stringing overhead electric distribution and secondary circuits, wooden power poles, and pole mount streetlights, ultimately aiding in the rebuild of our community.”
