First Reported Death of COVID-19 Reported in Territory

The Virgin Islands Department of Health announced the first COVID-19 related death in the U.S. Territory.

According to the DOH, 266 people have tested for the Coronavirus, with 42 testing positive.

34 individuals have recovered from their symptoms, with one person succumbing to the virus.

The VI Department of Health has not released information on the individual who died, or whether they contracted the virus through travel, community transmission, or from contact with another person who had the virus.

Following the first death in the territory, leaders are reinforcing to residents and visitors to stay inside, only go out when necessary and practice social distancing.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include a fever or cough and possibly trouble breathing.

If you suspect you have contracted the virus, you should stay home and call your doctor, seek medical treatment if you have trouble breathing or other emergency warning signs like persistent pain or pressure in the chest.
