The VI Department of Health said the news is just not true and warned about the dangers of sharing false information on social media.

“The Department of Health, Environmental Health, would like the public to know, go ahead, eat your bananas. It is safe,” Wanson Harris the Director of Environmental Health with the Virgin Islands Department of Health said.

“The Department of Health would like to encourage the community to share only accurate information. And to look to the Virgin Islands Department of Health as your premiere source for accurate health care information,” Jahnesta Ritter the Director of Public Relations with the Virgin Islands Department of Health said.

They added that if you’re you’re ever unsure you can visit doh.vi.gov for more information.
